The Story Behind

It began with a childhood fascination for fashion, craftsmanship, and the beauty found in the darker corners of the imagination. Over time, that fascination grew into a desire to create something  — a world where elegance, individuality, and a touch of darkness could exist together.

Founded in 2018 by Norwegian designer Victoria Syvertsen, By Victoria is a small independent fashion brand rooted in a love for craftsmanship and timeless design. With a background in fashion design, tailoring, and pattern making from ESMOD Oslo, Victoria creates pieces that draw inspiration from the past while remaining made for the present.

At the heart of By Victoria is the belief that design should come from somewhere meaningful. Every piece begins with an idea, a feeling, a memory, or a story — something that gives the design a reason to exist beyond its appearance. Heavily inspired by gothic ambience and the intricate details of the Victorian era, these influences are reimagined into pieces that feel both nostalgic and distinctly their own.

The AASE F/W 2024 collection, Victoria’s graduate collection, marked the beginning of this journey. Inspired by the Victorian traditions of mourning and the profound relationship between grief, loss, and depression, the collection explored the beauty found within darkness and sorrow. Drawing from historical mourning dress and the rituals surrounding it, AASE became a study of how clothing can carry memory, emotion, and meaning.

Still a small and evolving atelier, By Victoria remains dedicated to creating thoughtfully, slowly, and with intention. Each piece is made to order, allowing the focus to remain on craftsmanship, meaning, and the person who will eventually wear it.
